Venice Gondolier Stained Glass Window Frames c. 1950's Make a Great Gate
Venice Gondolier stained glass window frames. This pair of iron windows was handmade in the 1950's and intended to be filled with stained glass. The two pieces were placed in what were then the tile shop windows just South of us on Abbot Kinney. They remained there until the mid 1980's when they went into storage. The Gondolier became a symbol of Venice after Abbot Kinney visited Venice, Italy and was inspired to build his Venice here in California complete with canals and Gondoliers. Alumni of Venice High are called Gondoliers, as is the Venice High Football Team. In 1911 the Gondoliers who worked the Venice Canals founded Venice High School, famed as the setting of Grease and other teen films.
