Matson Lines Hawaii Travel Surfing Poster, Frank MacIntosh
What we have to say:
An extremely rare poster in excellent condition. This beautiful piece was used to advertise the Matson Lines Shipping Company as the preeminent mode of transport to Hawaii and beyond. Matsons' primary business was cargo but in an attempt to carve out a market in tourism as well as support their lucrative cargo business they created some of the most sought after Hawaii Tourism Collectibles available, this one is of special interest as it features a surfer, an outrigger and Diamond Head in the background.
The illustrator Frank MacIntosh studied in San Francisco and New York, he is best known for the artwork he produced for Matson Lines. His artistic set of six menu covers were so popular with the passengers that they were used from the 1920s through the 1950s.Excellent condition, mounted on linen. Height: 30 2/8", Width: 20"
