An inverted Ed Wood production, Fox’s Typical Flying Saucer Invasion explores the unremarkably extraordinary things that take place daily in Los Angeles. In this painting, two female Martians in Jane Fonda gear come down to earth with a fleet of flying saucers in their wake. Accompanied by a giant robot, the pair inspires panicked newspaper headlines and fear in the populace. Even the LAPD cower by the spaceship and suits rush around under a building marked Los Angeles Hair Removal. The use of electric blue to outline the space helmets and the retro-futuristic costumes are pure mid-fifties sci-fi serial matinee.
