1960s Hobie Surfboard
What we have to say:Beautifully restored 1960s Hobie surfboard. A wonderful "wall hanger" display board. This is an older restoration in Robin's egg blue ( PMS 7474 c). It has triple wood stringers that run the length of the board. The tail has an original redwood block. The fin is original glassed in black fiberglass. The board has rakish lines and displays wonderfully. Hobie: Hobie Alter started making surfboards in the 1950s. Hobie surfboards are still operating in the original business location in Dana Point CA. They are a success story within the checkered history that is the surf industry. Hobie built some of the first commercially manufactured foam boards with Gordon Clarke who went on to open Clarke Foam. By 1958 Hobie was only making surfboards from foam whilst his competitors were still using balsa and other wood blanks. Hobie had famous surfers of the day join his surf team and gave them signature model boards (another first). He invented the Hobie Catamaran in 1967. A true innovator. This board is a great example of his work and will complement any surf collection.
